Fortnite Data API Unlocks More Island Insights for Creators
The Fortnite Team
Two years ago, we made the CCU of every Fortnite island visible in the game to give creators more insights into what makes an island successful. Today we are bringing even more openness to the ecosystem by launching the Fortnite Data API, making additional engagement and retention metrics for all Epic-made experiences — including Fortnite Battle Royale — publicly available. Then, on June 9, we’ll expand the dataset in the Fortnite Data API to include the same metrics for all creator-made islands.
This will help you make data-driven decisions as you build, launch, and grow your games.
We are sharing metrics for Epic-made experiences first to give the creator community time to ask questions before we expand the API to include creator metrics. We’re hosting a ‘Let’s Chat Fortnite Data API’ livestream on May 30 at 3:30 PM ET and if you’re attending Unreal Fest Orlando, you can join our From Creative Vision to Game Business session that we’ll post online a few weeks after the show.
Initially, the Data API will only provide data for islands made by Epic, including Fortnite Battle Royale. Starting June 9, data for all creator-made islands will also become publicly available. Data is only available for islands that are public and discoverable in Fortnite.
What time period does the data cover?
The Data API initially provides data covering the last 10 minutes, the last hour, and the last 24-hour period. You can query for data that goes back 7 days from the present date.
How do I access the data?
The Fortnite Data API is publicly accessible and doesn’t require authentication. You can access it directly with instructions provided in our detailed API documentation, or through third-party analytics sites that might integrate this data directly.
Can I opt out of sharing my islands’ data with the Fortnite Data API?
No, there is no way to opt out. Data transparency applies equally to all islands published in the Fortnite ecosystem, which is why we’re sharing data from Epic-made islands as well.
Why does the Fortnite Data API share raw numbers and not averages or percentage benchmarks?
Providing precise numbers rather than averages or percentage benchmarks opens up significantly more granular learnings, better visualizations, and enables you to interpret the data more effectively. This will help you maximize the amount of insights you can extract when you dig into the data.
