Fortnite Creative v27.00 Update

The Fortnite Team

The Fortnite Ecosystem v27.00 update introduces the Fortnite Patchwork modular music toolset for Creative and UEFN! Additionally, the Audio Mixer device is now available in Creative.

Also in v27.00, there are new variants of the Submachine Gun and Suppressed Assault Rifle, new trees in the Spooky Prop Gallery B, and the Cooler is now in the Ammo and Chest Gallery. Traps have moved to the Consumables tab, and we've updated values for sprinting multiplier options. There are also several updates for the Creator Portal, as well as new UEFN project templates for custom lighting.

Bug fixes for Creative, UEFN, and Verse can be found in our documentation on the Epic Developer Community site.

The Fortnite Patchwork Modular Music Toolset is Live in Creative!

Today we're excited to deliver Patchwork, a suite of interconnected musical devices, to Fortnite Creative and UEFN. You can use these devices to:

  • Make games centered around music, such as games where the environment moves to the music.
  • Build dynamic soundtracks for your existing islands, such as specific music for combat and boss battles, or different ambient music for different areas of the map.
  • Create experiences where players have the power to create their own original music, either alone or with friends.

The initial set of 14 Patchwork devices provides you with an effective sound design and music creation system, making it easy for you to create a fully customized musical experience!

  • Distortion Effect
  • Drum Player
  • Drum Sequencer

  • Instrument Player

Patchwork Learning Resources

If you don't have much experience in making or playing music, we've got you covered! We have created several resources to help you get started:

  • Music Gallery: This Fortnite island provides a hands-on walkthrough of the Patchwork basics (Island code: 5806-7083-7937)
  • Getting Started with Patchwork: This tutorial explains how to use Patchwork and is a companion to the Music Gallery.
  • Club Patchwork: Hop into the club and jam with some friends! This island is already set up with Patchwork devices, so you can manipulate and customize them however you want to make the ultimate jam (Island code: 6730-0905-0185)

Patchwork Device Galleries & Prefabs

In addition to the individual devices, we've also created some Prefabs that provide you with groups of Patchwork devices that are ready to go. There’s also a brand new Gallery with all the available Patchwork devices laid out for you to copy-paste as needed. Note: These Patchwork Prefabs and Galleries are on the Devices tab in the Creative Inventory.
  • Patchwork Audio Gallery: Drop this onto your island for quick access to every Patchwork device listed above.
  • Patchwork Bass Prefab, Patchwork Drum Prefab, Patchwork Melody Prefab: These Prefabs contain functional Patchwork device chains. Add them to your island to start making music right away, then customize them to create your own sounds.

Audio Mixer Device Now in Creative!

Previously, the Audio Mixer device was only available in UEFN. Now with v27.00, it's available to use in Creative! Check out our Audio Mixer device page for more info on this device.

Audio Mixer Device Updates in UEFN!

In addition to adding the Audio Mixer device to the Creative toolset, we’ve updated the Audio Mixer device in UEFN. There are additional Control Buses you can create mixes for, you can register and unregister players to the device to determine who hears the mix, and you can automate when the device activates. Additionally, all Audio Mixer functions are now exposed to Verse, which lets you activate, deactivate, and handle player registration using Verse code.

New Weapons

  • Added the older-styled, Legendary and Epic variants of the Submachine Gun.
  • Added the Rare variant of the Suppressed Assault Rifle.

Prefabs and Galleries Updates

  • Added three new trees to Spooky Prop Gallery B.
  • Updated the trophy in the FNCS Trophy Prop Gallery.

Cooler Added to Chest and Ammo Gallery

The Cooler has been added to the Chest and Ammo Gallery in the Devices tab of the Creative Inventory.

Traps Now in Consumables Tab of Creative Inventory

All traps are now categorized and tagged appropriately in the Consumables tab. You can still use them when building your island, by dropping them in Create mode. You can also make these traps available for players. The old Speed Boost trap was replaced with the new Movement Modulator, so we have added a Speed Boost trap to Consumables that has three different tiers, each applying different impulse amounts.

Here is a full list of traps that are in Consumables:
  • Armored Wall
  • Bouncer
  • Chiller
  • Cozy Campfire
  • Damage Trap
  • Full Damage Rail
  • Half Damage Rail
  • Ice Block
  • Launch Pad
  • Mounted Turret
  • Poison Dart Trap
  • Speed Boost

Sprinting Multipliers Updated

In the My Island settings, we have updated the value ranges for the Sprinting Speed Multiplier and Sprinting Jump Multiplier options, to better reflect the actual calculations used for sprinting. The same options in the Class Designer device and the Team Settings & Inventory device have also been updated. Values set on existing islands have been converted to the new range, but there should not be any changes in gameplay for any existing island.
